presents a simplified set of letter forms and a refined multi-sensory method that help young students–and adults–develop the necessary skills to write well.
Founded and developed by handwriting specialist Iris Hatfield, with over 35 years of experience, NAC recognizes that everyone’s handwriting is unique. Each workbook is written to assist students at different levels, starting at the first grade, in not just learning the rules, but realizing and expressing their own unique and articulate cursive handwriting style. The workbooks are top-bound, making them equally accessible for left-handed or right-handed writers, and include instructions on posture for either approach.
The innovative methodology of the New American Cursive curriculum is accompanied and reinforced by time-tested values. With inspiring historical quotes and–also versions available with passages of scripture, students are encouraged to cultivate a world-view as strong as their writing abilities.
Every aspect of the New American Cursive Penmanship Program, from the workbooks to the supplementary StartWrite/NAC software, is conscientiously designed to make an enjoyable and enriching experience for students and teachers while making all the connections between a valid handwriting style and a viable cursive.
National "I love to Write" Day is November 15!
Use this time of the school year to really help students find something that they enjoy writing about. Then give them time to simply write. Since we are well into the school year, the students have. A lot to write, especially as they move on into middle and high school. They should be writing in mostly or completely cursive at this point, and as they do so, they may find they don’t mind it quite as much as they thought they would.
My high school students need to be prompted still to write in cursive, but hopefully the younger students are writing more in cursive.
During November, you can also use the time to reflect on being thankful. This could be used as a prompt to have students write about to specifically practice their cursive. Or as October is ending, and Halloween is approaching, students could write a scary story!
Be creative, and let the students have some flexibility to encourage them to enjoy their writing!
Teaching our program is just as enjoyable as learning from it! NAC only takes 15 minutes a day and it naturally integrates with the Startwrite/NAC worksheet software. Learning cursive doesn’t have to mean hours spent writing sentence after repetitious sentence!

“Students are excited about their cursive penmanship and parents are pleased to see their enthusiastic children write beautiful papers. "

"I have used this curriculum with my 8-year-old son, who is dyslexic, and my 5-year-old daughter, who wants to write cursive like her big brothers and sisters, with great success. It is very straight-forward and easy to understand for both parent and the child. I have had my children try many, many different styles of handwriting over our 10 years of homeschooling, and this has been one of the easiest with the best results. Legible, neat handwriting is still a skill worth perfecting. This program is providing that for my children."

"...your cursive handwriting program is a delightful method that can change that scenario. You've created an easy method for children to learn and for teachers to teach."
