presents a simplified set of letter forms and a refined multi-sensory method that help young students–and adults–develop the necessary skills to write well.
Founded and developed by handwriting specialist Iris Hatfield, with over 35 years of experience, NAC recognizes that everyone’s handwriting is unique. Each workbook is written to assist students at different levels, starting at the first grade, in not just learning the rules, but realizing and expressing their own unique and articulate cursive handwriting style. The workbooks are top-bound, making them equally accessible for left-handed or right-handed writers, and include instructions on posture for either approach.
The innovative methodology of the New American Cursive curriculum is accompanied and reinforced by time-tested values. With inspiring historical quotes and–also versions available with passages of scripture, students are encouraged to cultivate a world-view as strong as their writing abilities.
Every aspect of the New American Cursive Penmanship Program, from the workbooks to the supplementary StartWrite/NAC software, is conscientiously designed to make an enjoyable and enriching experience for students and teachers while making all the connections between a valid handwriting style and a viable cursive.
Celebrate National Thank You Note Day/Month!
National Thank You Note Day is December 26. This corresponds to the day after many people in the world celebrate Christmas and exchange presents. What a better way to celebrate National Thank You Note Day than to encourage your children to write thank you cards to everyone who showered them with presents! They can even write one to Santa for the gifts he gave them!
January is National Thank You Month! This is a great follow up to the gift giving season as well. So after many children are focused on receiving gifts, we can take the time following to encourage them to look for people to thank. It doesn’t have to be for a physical present, but could simply be to thank them for the involvement they have in their lives. Or you would have your child pay attention to people around them and write a random thank you note for the hard work that they do for the community.
This will provide your child with the opportunity to practice their very best handwriting and to demonstrate that they have the ability to be polite to others around them by writing legibly for others to read!
Keep up the encouragement to write! You are doing a great thing by helping your child or student to write in cursive consistently!!
Teaching our program is just as enjoyable as learning from it! NAC only takes 15 minutes a day and it naturally integrates with the Startwrite/NAC worksheet software. Learning cursive doesn’t have to mean hours spent writing sentence after repetitious sentence!

“Students are excited about their cursive penmanship and parents are pleased to see their enthusiastic children write beautiful papers. "

"I have used this curriculum with my 8-year-old son, who is dyslexic, and my 5-year-old daughter, who wants to write cursive like her big brothers and sisters, with great success. It is very straight-forward and easy to understand for both parent and the child. I have had my children try many, many different styles of handwriting over our 10 years of homeschooling, and this has been one of the easiest with the best results. Legible, neat handwriting is still a skill worth perfecting. This program is providing that for my children."

"...your cursive handwriting program is a delightful method that can change that scenario. You've created an easy method for children to learn and for teachers to teach."
